Abstract

The article shows the importance of motivation as a systemic factor in the development and functioning of the individual and defines the key role of motivation in the successful socialization and inculturation of the individual into the social situation of its development. The phenomena of optimal and suboptimal motivation are considered. One of the examples of suboptimal motivation, which the author of the article considers to be perfection motivation, is analyzed in detail.

It is shown that perfectionism is a universal timeless cross-cultural socio-psychological phenomenon that manifests itself in all spheres and at all levels of individual inclusion in social life and is one of the leading regulators of social behavior. The focus is on the social nature of perfectionism and it is shown that the mode of perfectionism depends on the ideas about this phenomenon, represented in public discourse and integrated into the worldview of social subjects. It is shown that the discourse of perfectionism inherent in perfectionist societies exerts legitimate symbolic pressure on members of these societies, who must remain in the sphere of perfectionist guidelines and beliefs, and some of them cannot withstand this pressure and need professional psychological help.

The feasibility of using the relational methodological approach in theoretical and applied research on motivation, which postulates the priority of social communications based on "live" and operational feedback (relations) between participants in social communication, is analyzed. The suitability of the relational approach in theoretical and applied research on motivation at all levels of functioning of "living" biopsychosocial systems is shown. The possibilities of the relational approach as a research methodology suitable for the analysis of perfection motivation and perfectionistic behavior at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels of their functioning are proven.
