ANALYSIS OF THE PRACTICE OF USING THE TERMS AFFECTION AND ATTACHMENT IN SCIENTIFIC PSYCHOLOGICAL LITERATURE

Abstract

The article provides an overview of the main provisions of attachment theory and an analysis of the basic concepts of this theory, namely the words "attachment" and "affection", which are often used as synonyms in the Ukrainian translation. For a better understanding of the admissibility of using them as synonyms, the common features of the mentioned concepts, as well as differences, and cases of use with similar but not identical meaning are defined. The article also discusses tangential concepts: "organizational affection", which is used in the field of organizational psychology and management psychology to indicate a positive attitude of the employee towards the management and the company, the desire to continue to maintain labor relations with the chosen enterprise, not to violate disciplinary, industrial and ethical norms established by the employer (can be replaced by the terms "corporate affection", "organizational loyalty"); "codependence", which belongs to the sphere of interpersonal relations, and in contrast to secure attachment, which contributes to the personal growth of the individual, means a relationship in which the personality of one person is lost, merges with the personality of another, the partner's needs prevail over one's own needs, the value of the partner is overestimated, and its own is underestimated. The article examines the main provisions of the works of John Bowlby, the author of the theory of child-parent attachment and Susan Johnson, the founder of the method of emotionally focused therapy, where the basic ideas of the theory of attachment of J. Bowlby are used to study the causes of misunderstandings, quarrels and emotional detachment of romantic partners, and in at the same time, as tools for overcoming this detachment and establishing emotional contact between partners, developing their sensitivity to each other. To achieve the goal of the article, a number of works of Ukrainian authors who contributed to the study of deep emotional relations between mother and child, between marriage and romantic partners were analyzed. Also, a review of the main types of attachment and their characteristics, identified by Mary Ainsworth, was carried out.
