METHODOLOGY OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN THE ECONOMICS: TRADITIONAL AND UPDATED APPROACHES

Abstract

This article solves the problem of identifying the traditional and the so-called "updated" approach to the methodology of scientific research. The authors find arguments in favor of appropriate changes in the methodology of scientific research as a special field of knowledge. Accordingly, this refers to changes in the methodology of scientific research both in the educational component of the training programs for doctors of philosophy (PhD) programs. The purpose of the study is to justify the structure of the updated course in the methodology of scientific research. The main factors (circumstances) of such an update are defined as: changes taking place in the organization of modern science, education and society, as well as an insufficiently substantiated identification of the philosophy of science and the methodology of scientific research. The article presents the structure of the methodology of scientific research course, created by the authors of this article and tested in the educational program for training doctors of philosophy (PhD) in the Economics at the "KROK" University. The structure of course includes three components, each of them subordinate to a specific task, namely: the formation of ideas about the products of scientific activity and the content of scientific novelty, the development of the structure of scientific research taking into account the formulated problem and the purpose of the research, the creation of a research source base and the correct use of sources. The authors used comparative, historical analysis and factor analysis of qualitative relationships between processes (phenomena). This made it possible to work out the so-called "updated" approach to the methodology of scientific research from the standpoint of historical achievements in this field of knowledge and from the standpoint of necessary changes related to modern requirements. The result of the research is the structure of the methodology of scientific research course in Economics proposed by the authors. It has a features of relevance to the challenges caused by changes in modern science and society. That is why such a structure, according to the authors, can be considered as an acceptable option for changes in the methodology of scientific research in economics and become the subject of discussions among educators.
