The energy sector is an important component of the economy of any country, as it provides the energy needs of the population and enterprises. Economic analysis of the energy sector can help identify problems in its operation and ensure rational use of resources. One of the global world problems that civilization has experienced is the provision of energy resources for the daily and labor production activities of mankind. This problem is caused by the factor of limitation and exhaustion of fossil resources. At the current stage of technological development, it is impossible to imagine the existence of society without the use of energy, which is used in production processes. The purpose of the study is to analyze the support and development of the energy sector in meeting the needs of the economy. General scientific and special research methods were used to achieve the goal of the research and to implement the tasks: analytical, comparative, system-structural, economic-statistical. The article analyzes the existing and potentially possible areas of development of the energy sector in the economic system. Based on the results of the analysis of scientific publications, on the basis of a comprehensive analysis, the problems of the energy sector in Ukraine were considered and directions for improvement were explored, highlighting the main components of the mechanism of effective energy supply. Improving the energy sector is one of the key tasks in the economic system, since energy is important for providing energy to the economy, and also has an impact on the environment and climate. The main directions of improving the energy sector in the economic system are: increasing the efficiency of energy production and consumption; increasing the use of renewable energy sources; development of energy-efficient technologies and products; development of transport and energy infrastructure.
