AI Usage Policy
The «Science notes of KROK University» supports the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in scientific research and publications, provided they comply with ethical standards of publication integrity, particularly the recommendations of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and other internationally recognized organizations in the field of publication ethics. The journal's policy on the use of AI defines acceptable and unacceptable areas of application for AI in the publication preparation process and establishes requirements for disclosing the use of AI by authors.
1. Acceptable Areas of AI Application
AI and AI-supported technologies can be used in scientific research at all stages of the publication process, under the following principles:
- Data Analysis: AI can be used for analyzing large volumes of data, statistical calculations, forecasting, and modeling, but all results must be human-verified and should not replace the critical analysis of the researcher.
- Support for Scientific Research: AI technologies can be applied to generate hypotheses, formulate research questions, or generate foundational ideas for further detailed investigation.
- Automation of Routine Processes: AI can be used for automating processes such as plagiarism detection, formatting articles, grammar and style checks, but these functions should not influence the scientific value or originality of the research.
- Literature Analysis: AI can assist in analyzing and classifying scientific literature, as well as in creating systematic reviews or meta-analyses, which enhances the efficiency of scholarly work.
2. Unacceptable Areas of AI Application
AI should not be used in the following areas:
- Automated Scientific Writing: AI should not replace authors in writing scientific articles, including drawing conclusions or interpreting research results. The use of AI to automatically generate articles without human involvement is unacceptable.
- Manipulation of Results: the use of AI to manipulate data or research results (e.g., falsifying results, statistical analyses, or graphs) is a serious violation of ethics.
- AI Replacing Peer Review: AI cannot replace the peer review process and should not influence decisions regarding publication. Articles should be reviewed by independent experts, not automated systems.
3. Requirements for Disclosure of AI Usage by Authors
Authors must disclose any use of AI and AI-supported technologies at every stage of the research, including:
- Disclosure of AI Usage: if AI was used for data analysis, modeling, writing part of the article, or verifying results, authors must clearly mention this in the "Aim and Methodology" or "Notes to the Article" section.
- Disclosure of AI Contributions to Authorship: if AI was used in the process of writing the article, authors must specify the exact contributions made by AI, such as generating initial ideas or analyzing statistical data.
- Disclosure of AI Tools: if specific AI platforms or tools were used in the research (e.g., for data processing, creating visualizations, etc.), authors must disclose these tools and their providers.
4. Notes to the Article
Authors must include notes at the end of the article, before the reference list, where they clearly indicate how and at which stages of the research AI was used. The notes may include the following points:
- Use of AI in the Research: a description of how AI was used in the research (e.g., for data collection, modeling, statistical analysis, text generation, etc.).
- AI Tools: a list of AI software and platforms used for data analysis or other stages of the research.
- Authorship Contribution: if AI contributed to writing part of the text or generating ideas, authors should clearly state the role of AI (e.g., preparation of the initial text or analysis of specific data).
- Ethical Declaration on AI Usage: authors must confirm that the use of AI complies with ethical norms and that all necessary permissions were obtained for using AI at the stages of the research.
5. Adherence to Academic Integrity
The use of AI must comply with general principles of academic integrity, including:
- Transparency: authors should be transparent about the AI technologies used and explain how and why they were applied in the research.
- Impartiality: AI should not influence the choice of methods, interpretation of results, or conclusions; everything must be done within the boundaries of scientific ethics.
- Accountability: authors remain responsible for the research results, even if AI was used at some stages of the work. All results must be human-verified, and AI cannot replace human analysis and evaluation.
6. Compliance with International Publication Ethics Standards
The «Science notes of KROK University» adheres to international publication ethics standards and COPE recommendations regarding the use of AI in scientific publications. These standards ensure that all research utilizing AI technologies is conducted in accordance with academic integrity, promoting the improvement of the quality of scientific publications.
