Abstract

T

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the psychological features of the self-actualization of a person of mature age. It is highlighted that a significant number of psychological studies are devoted to the issue of self-actualization, both in the scientific works of existential philosophers and thinkers, and representatives of humanistic psychology, including researchers of the psychodynamic approach. Ukrainian scientists also paid attention to the problem of self-actualization of the individual. It is noted that the mature age of the subjects corresponds to the age periodization according to biological characteristics (men from 22 to 60 years and women from 21 to 55 years). Empirical research made it possible to determine the level of a mature person's desire for self-actualization, i.e., to what extent he is able to determine the strategy of his life path and assess the degree of his success in this. As a result, according to the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) methodology, it was established that the vast majority have an average level of development of self-actualization. The psychological features of self-actualization of a person of mature age were studied in accordance with diagnostic scales, as a result of which it was noted that the psychological features of self-actualization lie in the priority of the development of its individual components, in particular, the first three positions are humanistic values, autonomy and creativity. The features of self-actualization depending on gender, age (age periodization of the 1st and 2nd period of the mature age of the studied), education, work experience are revealed. It is noted that becoming older does not add to the level of self-actualization of the mature age (three quarters of women and more than half of men have the average indicators of this phenomenon). It was established that a high level of development of self-actualization was shown to a greater extent by the subjects of the 2nd period of mature age. A high level was found by the majority of persons of mature age with higher education. It was also noted that with an increase in work experience, the level of self-actualization of the individual increases, and, therefore, satisfaction with the professional career.
